Cybercrime: Case numbers in England and Wales are constantly growing
Not only is the number of identity theft rising – in England and Wales, one in ten people have been victims of online crime last year.
These numbers are prompting police call for an awareness campaign: Based on the newest facts from the English Office for National Statistics, more than 5.8m cyber crime attacks happened last year. Most of them were attacks on banks and credit card fraud, but among them were also 1.4m attacks with computer viruses and 600.000 cases of unauthorised access to personal data.
The damage caused by these attacks is said to be around 193 bn pounds. The Guardian wrote in an article, that even though the police is becoming more and more successful in fighting cyber crime, it is of high importance to inform internet users about the possible danger. Anyhow, most importantly should companies from all kinds of sectors, take the right action to secure their customer from the ever growing danger.
